Sunday, the day of REST...NOT!!
So I've been meaning to post about this for a while now but haven't had time until just now. My entire life I was taught and retaught how Sunday is the day of rest. We don't play outside or with friends. We prepare for Sunday on Saturday making sure all our chores, laundry, etc., etc. are ready so Sunday can be our day of rest, right?? WELL, not this particular Sunday!!
Let me explain....
June 28, 2009
Our ward meets at 1 pm. I was almost excited when we changed in the spring, due to a building change, to the later time for the rest of the year. I was hoping and thinking that it would be perfect for Drew since he always has taken a very good morning nap. Well, to my dismay, Sunday seems to be the day his schedule is just ppplllthhstss (picture me sticking out my tongue and making a thumbs down motion with both my thumbs..got it? good) Moving on...So Drew has been taking a later nap, like, 11am, and sleeping till 1 or so. So instead of waking him (not all the time) we let him sleep and one of us stays with him until he wakes. Well, two Sundays ago it was my turn to head to church on time and then return after Sacrament meeting to pick up my boys. Silas was good with staying with Drew since he was preparing to teach the Sharing Time lesson in Sr. Primary. He was really nervous and wanted to go over his materials and make sure he was all set on his lesson. So I headed off to church and decided (don't tell my parents!!hehehe, funny how I still feel like I'll disappoint!) to leave after the sacrament was passed since it was High Council Sunday....you totally understand, right? :)
As I was leaving the church I could hear a siren coming down the street. So I watched it pass and said to myself,"That better not be going to my house!" You always say that, right? Thinking back, as I got in my car I had this urgent feeling to get home or at least see which direction the ambulance had turned. As I pulled out of the parking lot I didn't see the ambulance anymore so I, of course, proceeded to drive home. As I get to my neighborhood I see my neighbor from our old ward coming out from her backyard and I wave at her and get ready to turn into my neighborhood and with great horror I see the ambulance and fire truck and police AT MY HOUSE!!!! WHAT THE HELL!!! I was freaking out!!! We live on the corner as you come into our neighborhood so I pulled over to the left right on the corner, totally illegal...didn't really care....luckily put the car in park (that's another story), I think I even turned it off and RAN into my house, right behind the EMT's/Paramedics!! I was yelling, "What's wrong? What happened?" My heart beating so fast and the adrenalin just a pumping!!! I was so scared something had happened to Drew!! But I heard Silas saying, even before I could see him, "It's okay, Amy, it's me!! I cut my arm!"
As I came into the kitchen Sigh was sitting in a chair with his arm wrapped up and the BP machine on checking his vitals. There were between 7-10 emergency professionals in my house helping my hurt hubby!! It was very scary!! Silas proceeded to tell me that he had been cutting a cardboard box with box cutters. The box was one of my Usborne boxes..very thick, sturdy cardboard... sitting on the counter. As I see it, I just turned around and said "my favorite swear" as I realized what had happened!! Quite DRAMATIC if I say so myself!!
Well, I really had no idea how bad his cut was because by the time I arrived home it had been bandaged, but that he for sure needed stitches. So we opted out on the Ambulance joyride, grabbed Drew, who had woken up in all the commotion and had started to cry and we headed off to the hospital, all the way in Orem (lovely insurance).
Now, the following are two pictures of Sigh's arm....word to the wise...if you don't like oooey stuff close your eyes and scroll past between 47 to 72 taps (yes, I counted for you)...but if you are like me and LOVE stuff like this...take a look!! It was better in person FOR SURE....I only had my iPhone camera so take my word for it...it was CRAZY deep!! (and cool for that matter)
So what happened was the following...Silas had decided, since he was home, he wanted to make a cool visual for his lesson...great ideas always come last minute, right! As many of you know, Sigh makes amazing things out of cardboard, so these pyramids couldn't be too much work or too hard to whip out in 1/2 an hour or so!! Well...as he made his first cut into the cardboard he knew it was thick and harder to cut through so using a lot of force he started his cut. Well, not only did he make it through the box but kept on going right through his arm. He, of course, cut right through his "armor of steel", his white Sunday shirt. He knew it was bad when the blood started to squirt!! (sorry) Since I wasn't home he tried calling my cell but knew I would be in church and not answer...ironic thing is...I had just put my phone away after putting a few things on my calendar or I would have seen his call. Who knows if I would have gone out to check or answer it...I hope I would have!! I wish I could play back his voice mail for everyone to hear...the seriousness in his voice is disheartening! So, anyway, since he couldn't reach me and most neighbors were at church he called 911. And I'm glad he did!! I would have done the same!
Silas had three layers of stitches... I watched the whole thing...very interesting seeing inside his arm all the way down to muscle! I'm very amazed at how much fatty tissue there is...would not care to see how much my arm has though! :) He had two layers of 5 stitches and the top layer was 15!! So 25 all together!! Way to go honey!!
So what lessons do we learn from this.....
1. We don't cut towards our body....NO...we don't cut towards our body!!
2. Hydrogen Peroxide really does get blood out.
3. If you really wanted a short sleeved Sunday shirt....all you had to do was ask! :)
4. The paramedics are really fast at getting to our house...THANK GOODNESS..and hopefully we never have them over again!!
5. You will, for a couple days, find little spots and trails of blood throughout the injury zone no matter how closely you look and search for them!
When all is said and done I'm so glad and grateful that my sweet hubby is okay!! He's been really good about his sore arm and not really complained too much. He just gets weird shoots of pain in his arm when he extends it in different directions and has a little nerve damage that should heal in a week or two!
Silas got his stitches out last night and the doc who stitched him up was there. He was excited to see how well he had done sewing him back together. Dr. Smith did a great job!
We appreciate everyone being so kind and concerned about what had happened.. The rumors were definitely flying all over church, so we had lots of calls. Hopefully, if you hadn't heard what happened you now know and will sleep better tonight!! Our sweet Bishop even drove out to AF hospital to check on us without knowing that we were actually at Timpanogos Hospital...so thoughful!
So THANKS everyone!!

The REALITY of It All
So, I LOVE, CRAVE, am TOTALLY ADDICTED to reality TV! Anyone else on the same bandwagon? I have to say my fetish started on MTV, many a moon ago, when I started watching The Real World (yeah, right "real world"). I would watch season after season.... Any who... I LOVE them all! I love The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, The Apprentice (Sigh's and my first date was to a 'singles' party in SLC to watch it). I love Dancing with the Stars, The Mole, Survivor, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, Little People Big World, Baby Story, What Not to Wear, American Choppers, AND Jon & Kate Plus Eight!! (To name just a few...well, the ones I can remember)
Well, the reason for my post is to talk about the Jon and Kate thing!! I am sick about it!! I'm emotionally tied to this family through my TV for crying out loud. The other night, Monday, was their one hour special to make their big announcement. So, of course I watched it (I won't tell you who joined me! hehehe). I was told I "COULD NOT, WAS NOT ALLOWED to cry"! I told that person I wouldn't, but little does this person know that that night, after tucking into bed, I did!!
It just makes me so sad to see a family breaking up like this. I know these people do not have the gospel and are not sealed together as a forever family but....It's not supposed to be like this. This darling family, problems and all, does not deserve this.
Rant #1:
Can you believe Jon?? What's with the pierced ears and the obvious lack of any remorse for WHATEVER it is he's done (or even she's done)!! I guess this is what they wanted when they said they just wanted to document their lives. Don't get me wrong, I've loved watching the show and seeing these cute kids grow up. But it's hard to see this happen. It's hard to see how wedges have grown between what once was a happy couple who loved each other. They've said a lot lately that all that they do is for the kids. The house, the show, the books....everything is for the kids BUT what about them! Yes, they are sitting pretty, celebs and all, but whatever happened to doing something for your spouse, your marriage. I know they aren't filmed 24/7 but it never seemed they did much to actually help their marriage (plus the fact that Kate was always yelling at Jon, sure, that does wonders)
Rant #2:
That leads me to my second rant...How can you blame Jon. Even if he didn't have "an affair" the fact that he was seeking some kind of means of feeling needed. Yes, he was needed as a father, I don't doubt that, but was he really needed as a husband, a provider, a head of the household? How would it be to be working, always having done so, and then to have the roles suddenly or slowly reversed.? Becoming the stay at home dad vs. the one the family relies on for their wellbeing. I don't agree with what he did, whatever it was. He should have communicated with Kate, stood up to her.
Disclaimer: It sounds like I'm totally sided with Kate, but she bugs, too. Just haven't heard too much about her for some reason!
So what do you think? I'd love to know. Don't feel you have to agree with me. If you hate the show or love the show, let me know what your take is!
I'm definitely not sure if I'll continue watching the show or not. I don't want to watch Kate + 8 one week and Jon + 8 the next...even though that would be true REALITY!!

A Bit of Cuteness!!
Drew is growing up so quickly I can hardly stand it!! HE is SOOOO freakin' cute, in my humble opinion and I just LOVE him so much!!! He loves to play especially with all things NOT his toys!! He is very self entertaining most of the time...not that I just leave him be but he plays very well on his own!! For those of you who have had the privilege to lift him lately, you know that he is a husky kid that loves to eat!! He's walking everywhere and is really cute about stepping over cracks!! Too funny...how he hesitates and then goes for it!
He's a little chatter box!!! He cracks us up!! He totally carries on conversation with anything and anyone!! I love it!! He also sings to himself while playing and in his bed and, of course, he loves to sing along when I or his dad sings to him!! It's really cute! He'll even sing at church when the hymnbook is open and he hears the organ!! LOL
Some words he can "say":
badada= banana
Mommy
Daddy
Hi!
Papa (on rare occasions)
baba=bottle
uh oh!!
hi-ing=hiding (from this darling book I read to him)
Beny=Bently (Jamie and Kendall's dog)
doggy (along with oof, oof)
d=drink
oh!
ow!
He loves his wagon...it's so funny to be pulling him around and to look back and see him just chillaxin'!! He's finally getting teeth!! Since he turned one he has gotten two bottom teeth and 3 almost 4 top teeth!! Now he's workin' on those molars...oh joy!!
While I was at camp this year my mom watched him for us....she taught him to go down the stairs!! He LOVES it, just giggles....he thinks he's pretty hot stuff!! But man does he give us all a heart attack when he does it!!
Just a couple funny stories of cute things he's done.
The other day we were brushing his teeth. I had helped him and then let him try. Well, he mostly sucks on the toothbrush but will kind of brush back and forth on his own..cute, I know but not terribly funny!! So, I go change him and he still has the toothbrush in his mouth and while he was lying there on the changing table he pulls the brush out of his mouth and proceeds to brush his hair with the toothbrush.....I thought it was so cute and it just made my day....
My other story is cute too! He was playing in the hall and in his bedroom when it got really quiet so I knew he must have gone into my room.....I try to keep my door shut just for my sanity. So I started to call out his name "Drew, Drew...what are you doing Drew?" I head back to my room....he loves to go on my side of the bed and find my purse... so I knew he'd found something. As I get there I see his cute little face peering over the bed at me and his cute little pudgy arm reached out towards me holding a fruit snack wrapper....as if he was in trouble....he was handing it to me. Of course he was "talking" or "explaining " himself to me as he handed me the package! It was cute and made me feel a little bad that he thought he was in trouble!! That's so amazing to me that he is learning that at such a young age!!
Which reminds me that it just completely breaks my heart to have to discipline him already!! He LOVEs to throw his food on the floor and swhoosh it back and forth on his tray making a huge mess ON the floor, ON the wall, ON the blinds!! Well, I decided to not "allow" this by gently tapping his hand when he does it and saying "no"!! Well....this does not go over very well with him....he looks at me with those gorgeous baby blues, sticks out that bottom lip and cries the most tender little cry I've EVER heard while calling out "Mommy mommy"!! It's unbearable!!!!! I so much want to just grab him up and cuddle him in my arms....ahhhhhh, man!! It stinks! He often times will bend down towards the tray, cover his mouth with his hands and cry and just let all the food in his mouth drop out....oh, it's just too much for me!! But I AM the mother and I will stand my ground.....(sniffle, sniffle)
Well, sorry for blabbing on and on....hope everyone is doing well! Enjoy the pics!!
